yes after being away for so long, we have something to tell everyone.
Yes! like what the title has said, it is the 6th ING's Cup World Professional Weiqi Championships to be held in Singapore!

Pro players! it will be so ubber Cool!!!

"The 6th ING's Cup World Proessional Weiqi Championships between Lee Chang Ho (9Dan) and Choi Choel Han (9Dan) is going to be held in Singapore from the 3rd March 2009 till 7th March 2009." from Weiqi.org.sg

maybe you guys must be wondering about the history of this competition. well, below are the details about it.

The Highest Prize Professional Goe Championship In The World
(March in Singapore)

The ING’s Cup World Professional Goe Championship, which is held once every 4 years is one of the most important International Goe Competitions with the highest amount of prize money involved. The Champion will receive a total of 400,000 USD while the 1st Runner-up will receive a total of 100,000 USD. It is also known that the total costs sponsored by the ING Weiqi Educational Foundation of the entire Championship are at the amount of 1.5 Million USD.

The 1st ING’s Cup World Professional Goe Championship Finals was held in 1989 in Singapore. The finalists then were Cho Hyun-Hun (9Dan) representing Korea versus Nie Wei Ping (9Dan) representing China. Finally Cho Hyun-Hun (9Dan) won the Finals and became the first ING’s Cup World Champion. It had also led Korea become a Weiqi Powerhouse in the world today.

The competition comprises of 3 rounds, each on 1 day, exact details are below:

3rd of march
9:30am & 1:30pm

Just an extra information. if you are going to view the competition, please remember to turn your handphone to silent mode when viewing. It's to prevent distraction to the players during playing. It's to show respect to the players.

though this year we didn't take part in the POL-ITE but to those of you wants to take this chance and go to watch the games at the same time learn more, this is a good timing for improvement.

guys, this post is a highly important post. i hope you guys take some time to think through while reading the post.

currently we have 2 vice captain in training. they are Azwan and Jin Mun. as YuQi from next sem onwards decided to terminate his studies in the school, he wants someone to rise up to captain before he left. therefore, he had ask the 2 of them 2 questions: "What will you do after become Captain?" and "Sell yourself for being vote". the below are the response from Azwan and Jin Mun. Date: 12 & 13 july 2008

Venue: SP

Competition Rules

1. There are 4 different divisions:

i) Polytechnic and Junior Colleges (team)

ii) Secondary Schools (team)

2. The game play is as follows:

Inter-Polytechnic, Junior Colleges, Secondary Schools TEAM games

a) All participating teams are to report at 8.30am at the SP Concourse. Games will start at 1pm. Please report to the admin counter. Registrations start from 8.30am to 9.30am.

b) All participating teams are to report latest by 9.30pm at the SP Concourse. Games will start at 9.30am.

c) Each team shall consist of 3 players and 1 reserve.

d) Each player will be given 45mins.

e) There will be 7 rounds altogether. 4 games shall be played on Day 1 and 3 games on Day 2.

3. General Administration

a) The closing date for all schools registration is 25^th June. There will NOT be on-the-spot registration this year. Please enclose the registration fee together with the registration form, or pay them during the Captain’s meeting.

b) Prizes shall be awarded on Day 2. All teams are strongly encouraged to be present for the prize presentation.

c) The duration of the whole event daily will be from 9am to 8pm.

4. General Rule

a) We will follow the Chinese rules.

b) The colours (decides who start first) that the player will be using is will be decided by guessing of seeds. Seeds guessing will be done by first board only, thus it is players and captain’s role to take note of the colour that they are supposes to be using.

c) A team shall consist of 3 players and 1 reserve, which shall be listed in a fixed order before the competition begins (during administration on Day 1 of the competition). There shall be no imposition of rating in board order for the championships. Change of players is not allowed and no change in the board order is allowed after the start of round 1. The reserve must play on the last board. For each wrong placing in the team, a default of 1 point shall be awarded to the opposing team.

d) For team game, a late player is given only 15 minutes grace, failing which the opponent shall win by default.

hey guys, still remember we discuss about the WeiQi workshop with the Japanese Cultural IG previously? well, the workshop has been approved by the OSG. The workshop will be held on: 27 september(thursday), 5 ~ 7 pm. The venue will not be at the studio where we always had our training as the OSG needs the studio for use these weeks, so the venue will be informed at a later date.

Supergo Youth Challenge

On the 15 sept 2007, our guys went for a competition organised by the Matrix of GO, SWA and Ci Yuan YEC held at Bowen Secondary School.

Supergo Youth Challenge is a competition for all Polytechnics & ITE. This competition is only for the new players (learnt about 6 months) that are in year 1. After the competition, all the new players (or noob) will not be new (noob) any more. Using the 13x13 board for beginners. Attractive prizes include: 1st place $100, 2nd & 3rd: $50 and the top 10s will receive medals (which will make the school/club proud). The schools that were included: NP, SP, NYP, TP, RP & Simei ITE. As this is the 1st time that this competition is held, so from this year onwards this competition will be held every year.

3 of our guys had won medals. They are Kah Wee(5th), Yi Neng(6th) and Qiu Ping(10th). Congratulations to the members!!!
